With the following remarks, the author provides a brief insight into his dissertation thesis submitted at the Faculty of Philosophy (International Politics) of the University of Passau. The overarching topic of the thesis is the thought of the transferability of economic applications and methods to state organisations. In particular it will be asked, how (economic) risk management can be transferred to police organisations and what possible advantages arise from this. Numerous questions triggered by these considerations shall be answered through the thesis. This includes if it is necessary to design a brand new concept for police risk management or whether existing knowledge and tools can be used? Some other questions are: Can risk management contribute in improving leadership and decision-making processes in terms of increasing effectiveness and efficiency? In which organisational context shall the introduction and implementation of risk management being considered? Is it enough for the responsible persons of the organisation to consider just individual organisational aspects or tasks or shall the whole organisation be subject of the consideration? Is already a kind of standard or common concept of police risk management available that is applied by all (European) police forces? The answers to these and further questions should form the basis for the development of a framework concept in the sense of “Organisational-Governance (4.0)” and being considered as (European) standard for police risk management.
