Abstract

Background: Successful learning requires both interactive and collaborative learning environment. Virtual teaching or electronic learning (e-learning) can be defined as the delivery of teaching and learning materials at a distance with the use of computer and digital tools or internet technologies. Aims: The main scope of this study is to analyse the various teaching formats at Deggendorf Institute of Technology European Campus Rottal-Inn, and to identify gaps that suggest the proposal of the efficient tools for the support of an efficient virtual teaching and learning process. Moreover, it optimizes virtual assessment through an analysis of the new electronic examination forms (e-exams) before and after COVID-19. Method: The paper employed a qualitative research approach i.e. data were collected, and classified according to a structured review of subject classification level in science and its proposed teaching format. Results: Various teaching formats such as; lecture and whiteboard, seminaristic, laboratory work, field trips, case-study, and online were identified according to subject classification level in science such as natural, formal, applied, computer, and social. Conclusion: Digital education aims at minimising interferences to education, providing rhythm and routine among current challenges times during COVID-19, and empowering students to experience new tools and resources at the same time creating a safe place for educators to have control on the teaching process.
